Tennis elbow
What it is
Tennis elbow (epicondylitis) is a pain near the elbow
caused by inflammation where a tendon from the forearm muscles attaches
to the bone. The inflammation results from overuse of the muscle and
is especially common from racquet games when the grip is faulty. Gardening
and heavy lifting can also bring it on. Symptoms include pain and
tenderness on the outside of the elbow and the back of the forearm.
Self help measures:
Rest the arm for a couple of weeks
Apply an ice pack regularly (wrapped in cloth and only applied for
up to 10 minutes at a time).
Applying magnetic patches
Apply one or more magnets over the most painful sites – relief
often occurs within half an hour. Magnetic patches can also be used
to surround the painful area, or applied to acupuncture points over
or near the site of pain, as shown in the following illustration.
Select the points which most closely relate to the site of discomfort.
