How magnets are used
Many types of magnet are available for therapeutic use, but the most convenient and useful are electromagnetic patches (Acumed) which can be applied to most parts of the body.

Magnets may be used in combination with other complementary or orthodox treatments to enhance their effectiveness.

How do I use electromagnetic patches?
The body maps in a later section of this book show the acupuncture points for some of the more common conditions that electromagnetic patches can help. You can either apply a patch directly over tender areas, or areas of pain, or select the nearest acupuncture point(s).

Take the oval Acumed patch, holding it by the white protective tab. Do not touch the adhesive surface.

Hold the patch leaf straight in front of you, with the magnet facing away from you. Tear the perforated, narrow strip on the edge of the leaf to reveal the self-adhesive plaster.

This will enable you to peel off the entire plaster (with magnetic, copper and zinc).

Press the entire oval plaster over clean, dry skin at the selected acupoint or tender spot. Peel off the white tab and smooth down the patch. Press down firmly to ensure it has stuck to the skin well. It is important the skin is dry, otherwise you will not obtain good adherence.

How many plasters can I wear at one time?
More than one plaster can be worn at the same time, depending on the spread and intensity of your pain.
Do I have to apply a patch over every acupoint illustrated?
No, these are only suggestions to show where traditional acupoints are sited. You can choose the point(s) you believe will help you best, or apply the patch directly over a tender area or the site of pain.

How long do I wear the plaster(s) for?
The optimum effect of magnet patch treatment is obtained between the third and fifth day. For reasons of hygiene, each patch should be used only once. If further treatment is required, use a new patch. Replace after 5 – 7 days, allowing the skin to breath.

Can I bathe while using Acumed?
You can safely bathe, shower or swim while using Acumed patches.

How do I remove Acumed patches?
All you need to do is gently pull the patch from the edges towards the centre. Any remaining adhesive can be removed with citrus-based skin cleansing lotion or tea tree oil.

How do I dispose of them?
Acumed patches are made from natural elements and function on natural forces. It has been observed that plants exposed to the south pole of a magnet grow more quickly. Earth worms are also driven away from the south pole. The south pole on the Acumed patches faces away from the skin. After using a patch, bury it in your garden in close proximity to your plants and in line with the earth’s magnetic field.

When can I use another patch?
Allow the skin to breathe for a few days before applying a new plaster in the same spot. Make sure the skin is clean and dry when repeating the process.

Can I share a patch?
No. Never share or re-use the same patch for hygiene reasons.
